National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV)

The National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research, I. P. (INIAV) is the State Laboratory, within the area of competence of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, which develops research activities in the agronomic and veterinary areas. It has the task of carrying out scientific and policy research to support public policies, while defending national interests and deepening common European policies. INIAV holds the National Reference Laboratory for Food Safety.

 

Main tasks
INIAV is responsible for the collection of agro-food residues and sampling strategy. Also, INIAV has specific expertise on the evaluation of mycotoxins and pesticides in food-based products and byproducts; evaluation of the antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial activity as well as in the toxicity assays. INIAV has specialized microbiology labs being able to test the antimicrobial properties of natural compounds on pathogenics.
